Waiting at the gate was a security guard, who gave her a stern look. Instead of waiting for him to speak, Cocoa’s impatience made her speak first.
“Mi nombre es Cocoa.Estoy aqui para ver el Señor Colon. ¡Él me conoce!”
She figured that Carlos didn’t get many visitors, never mind unannounced visitors, so she knew that she was taking a big chance by just showing up, but, based on the circumstances, she felt she had no choice. She hoped that, by telling the guard that she knew him, that he would, at least, check to see if she could be seen, but he didn’t budge.
“Lo siento, señorita, pero no puede ver el Señor Colon sin un nombramiento. Puedo hacerle saber que usted estaba aquí y él se pondrá en contacto con usted para darle una cita.”
The guard had rejected her, but she wasn’t about to go away so easily. She had not come all the way down there just to be shooed away by a security guard, and having him tell her that she had to come back when she had an appointment only made her angrier.
“¿Porqué no se le puede llamar y versi él puede ver me porque realmente necesito que verl oahora?”
Cocoa tried her best to let him know that she needed to see Carlos right away. Her anger made her get out of the car, and, as she argued with the guard, she had no idea that Carlos was watching her from his security monitor in his executive office. Carlos just happened to be sitting at his desk, taking care of some paperwork, when he looked out of the corner of his eye and scanned the security monitor that pointed at the front gate. He couldn’t believe that Cocoa was in Panama, much less at his front gate. He immediately grabbed the phone and called the guard and told him to let her in immediately.
“¡Dejar a suser! ¡Ella puede entrar!”
After hearing Carlos’s commanding voice, a smile immediately came over Cocoa’s face as the security guard opened the gate. That smile remained on her face as she drove up the massive driveway. As she pulled up to the front entrance, a butler opened the door for her and led her into the mansion, and, as she followed him to Carlos’s executive office, she was overwhelmed by the beauty and rich detail in everything she saw.
When the butler opened the oak wood door that led to Carlos’s office, she saw him sitting at his desk, scribbling notes. As she sauntered in and sat down, he never looked up at her. This made her feel a bit ignored, so she spoke up first.
“I know I shouldn’t have shown up unannounced, but I felt like I had no choice. No one will answer my calls, and I’ve started to hear things,” Cocoa said nervously.
“You shouldn’t be concerned with such things. Instead, you should be at home, mourning for your late husband who was tragically murdered in prison! Have you heard anything about his
